Party colors, not a color picker fight

Election maps are categorical: each region belongs to one party or outcome. Category mode is built for exactly this - define a group per party, give it the color readers already associate with it, and click regions into that group. The legend builds itself from the group names.

Because groups are named, changing a party color updates every region in that group at once, rather than requiring you to re-click every seat.

Margins, swings and forecasts

Where the winner alone is not enough, gradient mode shades regions by a number - vote share, margin, swing against the previous cycle, or turnout. Logic rules cover banded presentations such as safe, likely, lean and toss-up, with a threshold per band.

For a forecast or scenario map, build the categories you need and color regions by hand; nothing forces the map to reflect a real result.

Maps at the level elections are actually decided

National maps hide the story. These are the levels people usually need.

Publishing the result

Export a PNG for a story, a post or a slide, or an SVG for print and further editing. A title strip, description line and source credit can travel with the export, and a share link or embed snippet puts a live version into an article or site.
