A map colorer, painter and highlighter in one

Most people looking to color a map online want one of three things: to highlight a handful of regions, to shade every region by a number, or to group regions into named categories. Create My Maps handles all three from the same editor, so you do not have to pick a tool before you know which one you need.

Coloring is direct. Click a region and it fills with the active color. Click again to change it. There is no layer panel to manage, no projection to configure, and nothing to publish before you can see the result.

Four coloring modes

Each mode is built for a different shape of data, and you can switch between them without losing your work.

Flat

One color, applied by hand. Best for highlighting a few regions - countries visited, offices opened, markets entered.

Tag / category

Named groups with their own colors and legend entries. Best for qualitative data such as party, status, tier or owner.

Gradient scale

A continuous scale between two or more colors, driven by a number per region. Best for population, revenue, prices or rates.

Logic rules

Conditional coloring - if a value is above, below or between thresholds, apply this color. Best for banded data and cutoffs.

Color from a spreadsheet instead of by hand

Clicking works well up to a few dozen regions. Past that, paste your data instead. Import a two-column list of region names and values and every matching region is colored at once, which is the difference between a five-minute job and an hour of clicking on a map with hundreds of districts or counties.

Region names are matched automatically, and anything that does not match is reported so you can correct the spelling rather than silently losing a row.

Export that is ready to publish

Download a PNG for slides, documents, reports and social posts, or an SVG when you need a vector you can scale without blurring or edit further in Illustrator, Figma or Inkscape.

Exports can carry a title strip, a description line, the legend and a source credit, so a map lifted straight out of the editor does not need a second pass in a design tool before it goes into a deck.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free to color a map online here?
Yes. Coloring, editing and exporting are free with no account and no sign-up, and there is no cap on how many maps you make.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs in the browser. There is nothing to download and nothing to configure before you start.
Can I download the map I colored?
Yes, as PNG or SVG. PNG suits slides and documents; SVG stays sharp at any size and can be edited further in vector software.

Yes. Name your color groups to build a legend, choose where it sits, and switch region labels or abbreviations on where they fit.
Which maps can I color?
Over 450, covering the world, every continent, individual countries, US states and counties, and administrative subdivisions such as Indian districts and UK counties.
Can I use the maps commercially?
The underlying map geometry is licensed for non-commercial use with attribution, which the export stamp provides. Check the credits page for the full terms before commercial publication.
